The FibreCoat story
The idea of coating fibres emerged in 2014 during Robert Brüll’s doctoral research at the Institute for Textile Technology (ITA) at RWTH Aachen University. Together with Richard Haas and Alexander Lüking, he began experimenting with polymer coatings. In 2019, the team received a start-up grant from the Federal Ministry of Science and Energy, leading to the founding of FibreCoat in 2020.
Shortly after, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted supply chains and brought production to a halt. This challenge opened the door to a new approach: aluminium coating. Early results proved highly promising, prompting the development of AluCoat. The technology went on to win multiple awards, including third place at the US Rice Business Plan Competition, the world’s largest start-up competition.
Today, FibreCoat supplies advanced fibre solutions to customers worldwide. Our aluminium- and polymer-coated fibres are used in various applications such as EMI shielding, thermal conductivity, fire resistance, and more. Key markets include defence, space, mobility, and other industrial sectors, where our materials enable next-generation technologies through tailored fibre and coating combinations.
